Great Masters can
often be understood best through the eyes of their disciples. Ananda publishes
the books of a few of those disciples, most notably Swami Kriyananda.
Paramhansa Yogananda
had hundreds of direct disciples. Some of these disciples are well
known as authors, or as leaders of large organizations. Many didn't have
a prominent public role, but nonetheless were great disciples of the Master.
Many of them are worthy of study for those who are interested in learning
more about yoga and Yogananda.
The links below shed
light on Yogananda's life and teachings through the eyes of some of those
disciples, with many excerpts from books about Yogananda
Devi
Mukherjee
Devi, with his wife Hassi and son Manash, are long time friends of
Ananda. Hassi is the daughter of Tulsi Bose, Yogananda's closest boyhood
friend. Devi has written the beautiful book, Shaped
by Saints. It recounts stories of Yogananda, Tulsi Bose, Anandamayee
Ma, and others. You can read the entire book online.
Kamala Silva
Kamala was with Yogananda starting in the 1920's. Her book, The
Flawless Mirror, is very popular with
students of Yogananda's teachings, and can be ordered online through Ananda.
Roy Eugene Davis
Mr. Davis has written many books and founded the Center for Spiritual
Awareness, a retreat and teaching center in Georgia. This link is to the
CSA website.
Peggy Deitz
Author of Thank
You, Master, she spent some three years with Yogananda.
